Today we celebrate of one of the most important events in History..... the Resurrection of Jesus Christ......In many Christian communities.....there is a spectial greeting and answer used at this time of year..... He is Risen!.... and the answer.... He is risen indeed !....

Let´s join in this tradition..... HE IS RISEN.....HE IS RISEN INDEED!....

We have been studying the last week of Jesus life on the Earth.... this is the four sermon in that series...Last Sunday.....Palm Sunday.... we witnessed Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem.... as he entered into Jerusalem... he allowed himself to be crowned as Messiah and King....

The people thought..... that he would at long last..... free them from bondage to Rome.....That he would establish his Kingdom.....He knew that they didn´t understand..... He knew that he had come to die....

The people thought.....that the Messiah had come to change their circumstances.....He knew that he had come to change their hearts....

The people wanted to be free from Bondage to Rome.....Jesus wanted them to be free from bondage to sin..... and it´s consequences.... death..... Because the wages of sin is death..... Romans 6: 23....

Then last Thursday.... we celebrated "Jesus in the Passover".....We looked at this very important evening that has been celebrated for about 3500 years... Jesus completed the picture of himself as the Lamb of God ....

He changed the Passover of the Old Testament ....into the celebration of communion....

He used the 3rd cup.... the cup of redemption... to represent his blood which was soon to be shed for them.... for us.... in his death on the cross.....Again he told the disciples that he was gong to suffer and die....

They were very sad and upset..... they also had hoped that he would begin his eternal kingdom....They had seen the miracles.... they had recently seen JESUS raise Lazarus from the dead....

That evening after they finished the Passover celebration..... they went to the Garden of Gethsemene.....To pray....He was betrayed.... just as he said.....he was beaten and crucified......The followers of JESUS were afraid and confused....

One of those who were watching the crucifixion.... said, ...he saved others why couldn´t he save himself?...... a very good question.....It is the death and resurrection of JESUS that saves us.... saves us from sin..... and from death....

John 11: 25- 27 NLT

25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life.[e] Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. 26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”

27 “Yes, Lord,” she told him. “I have always believed you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who has come into the world from God.”

John 11: 25- 27 Neues Leben

Not only here but many times.....Jesus himself had answered the question during his ministry..... but in the horror of the events they witnessed ..... All was dark and confused....

They buried him in a tomb....but because it was the sabbath..... they didn´t have time to finish preparing the body of Jesus....

Their lives were turned upside down..... the sadness was like blackest of nights... not one ray of light to help or comfort them ......and then as the dawn broke forth....They went to Minister to Jesus dead body......Now let´s pick up the story.... Luke 24: 1.....

Luke 24:1- 12 NLT

1 But very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2 They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. 3 So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.

5 The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? 6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.”

8 Then they remembered that he had said this. 9 So they rushed back from the tomb to tell his eleven disciples—and everyone else—what had happened. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and several other women who told the apostles what had happened. 11 But the story sounded like nonsense to the men, so they didn’t believe it. 12 However, Peter jumped up and ran to the tomb to look. Stooping, he peered in and saw the empty linen wrappings; then he went home again, wondering what had happened.

Luke 24:1- 12 Neues Leben

The dawn broke and the tomb was empty…… With the help of a couple of angels….. The women got it…… They understood….. The angels reminded the them of all the Things that Jesus himself had said…… Jesus prophesied His own betrayal and death…… He said ….no man takes my life from me …..I lay it down….

John 10: 14-18 NLT

14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, 15 just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd.

17 “The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. 18 No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.”

Dear friends….. The Lord knows us…….and he still was willing to die for us……voluntarily

Back to our text in Luke 24…..

There are several things that I would like for us to notice this morning..... You really have to read all 4 gospels to get the big picture here…..Each Gospel focuses on certain parts of the resurrection…….

v1

1. It was the women who went to the tomb.... Remember that women were not generally held in very high esteem in these days……

Jesus went against the culture….. He always spoke to and ministered to the least….. the poor the broken the leper…… people like you and me…..

It was the women who were in the majority at the foot of the cross……. It was the women who were the last to see Jesus alive……. They were the first to know that the Lord had risen from the dead just as He said…… They were the first to see Jesus after the resurrection…..

I think that´s super…… Women are more spiritual…. than men….. Sorry men…..that´s just the way it is……

They went to the tomb to wash his body…… It was very hard to think of their LORD dead…..But they in their sorrow ….. went to Him….to minister to his lifeless body….

Their love and dedication to the Lord Jesus allowed them to endure the pain of His death……It gave them strength to go to him……

Have you ever touched a dead body? I have not…. There was no one else to prepare and anoint the body……. These women loved the Lord Jesus…… look at verse 10….. Mary Magdalene was there…… This woman was believed to be hopelessly condemned by God …. as was everyone who was chronically ill or possessed by demons…..She had been possessed…… Hopeless……

Jesus delivered her….He set her free…… She owed Him her life….. She was on eof the ones who carried the good news of the empty tomb to the disciples…

Augustine…. One of the great theologians from the early church….. Said that Mary Magdalene was the apostle to the apostles……She brought the GOOD NEWS of the Resurrection of Jesus to Peter and the others….

Do you remember what Jesus said about the woman who came to him and washed His feet with her tears……. she anointed Him with precious anointment…… It was probably her dowry?.... He said….. he who is forgiven much loves much…..

v2….. They found the stone rolled away……

Not to let Jesus out…… to let the women see in….. to see the empty tomb and the folded linens……

v6

2. He is not dead.... he is alive....

He is Risen!!!! Hallelujah

v7

3. Jesus predicted his own death and resurrection.... turn to Luke 18…..

Luke 18: 31- 33 NLT

31 Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus said, “Listen, we’re going up to Jerusalem, where all the predictions of the prophets concerning the Son of Man will come true. 32 He will be handed over to the Romans, and he will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit upon. 33 They will flog him with a whip and kill him, but on the third day he will rise again.”

Luke 18: 31- 33 Neues Leben

v33….. on the third day ….. the Son of Man will rise again….

Today in America…… 25 % of so called “evangelical Christian Pastors” believe in the literal….. bodily resurrection of Jesus…… That´s a tragedy…….. almost 2 thousand years ago Paul wrote ….If Jesus is not risen from the dead ……then our faith is in vain….1 Cor 15……

Friends…. Jesus is risen from the dead…… Because he is alive…… we will also live forever… with him…..

More than five hundred people saw Jesus alive before He went to Heaven…..

Two very famous unbelievers who set about to prove that the resurrection was a lie…… became converted….. they became believers and repented of their sin and rebellion…… because the Resurrection is the most documented event in ancient History….

What I would like for us to do today is to think about what the resurrection means to us……

Even though he had told them what was going to happen….. more than once….. The faith of the disciples was horribly shaken at the death of Jesus…..

In some respects……We too can find our faith shaken….

APPLICATION

Sometimes our lives don´t turn out the way we have wished…….

Sometimes bad news shakes our faith to the roots….. It affects the way we think about God……

Do you remember Job….. It´s a very difficult book to read…… But it is very important…… It helps us trust the LORD….. even in disaster…… Most of you know the story……..

Job loved and cared for His family…..Then is a series of disasters…… His whole life was turned to ashes ….. It was not because he had done something wrong….. It was so that God ´s glory and faithfulness and unfailing Love could shine ….. Job was able to hang on to God´s faithfulness ……. He was able to keep his eyes off of his circumstances……. He trusted in God´s hesed….. God´s unfailing love….. even in the most tragic life imaginable….. Do you remember what he said?.....

Job 19: 25 -27 NLT

25 “But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last.

26 And after my body has decayed, yet in my body I will see God!

27 I will see him for myself. Yes, I will see him with my own eyes. I am overwhelmed at the thought!

Job 19: 25- 27 Neues Leben

I am overwhelmed at the thought that someone who suffered so much…… someone who´s entire world came crashing down on him…….. Still was able to declare that God is Good….. He is faithful and he will redeem me…..

We freak out if some small thing ruins our plans……. We say…..I guess God isn´t all powerful…. look what´s happened to me……. God isn´t really always good….

Why does he let these things happen to me?...... Why did _______ happen?..... Fill in the space….

Job comforted himself in the fact that when it was all over…… He would rise from the dead…. and he would see God with his own eyes…… He was overwhelmed at the thought….. He set his heart and his eyes on heavenly things…… On forever….not the here and now ….. He decided that God knew what he was doing…… even though Job didn´t understand….Job decided to trust God….. Even though he wasn´t perfect…..He was indeed ……just Like God said……the man on the earth….

Job 1: 8 NLT

8 Then the Lord asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.”

Job 1: 8 Neues Leben

We are only on this earth for a very short time…… We need to set our sights on eternity……

In closing …..Let´s read Paul´s advice to the Colossians…..

Close

Colossians 3: 1-11 NLT

1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.

5 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. 6 Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. 7 You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. 8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. 9 Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. 10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. 11 In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.

Colossians 3: 1-11 Neues Leben

We have been raised to new life in Christ….. That´s Good news…… That´s the news of the resurrection…….. Jesus has redeemed us….. We have been transformed…… and raised to walk in a new redeemed life in Christ Jesus.

Remember…..Jesus did not come to change our circumstances…. He came to change our hearts…..

He didn´t come to change our now……. He came to change our forever…. I am sure that Paul is right….. LikePaul says here in v1 ….. we need to set our hearts and our eyes on heaven…..

The great lie today….is that the here and now is all that there is…… Get all that you can get…. live large….. Live like there is no tomorrow……..

What a lie…… What a dangerous way to live…..The scripture says…..It is appointed once to die….and then comes the Judgment of God……

We have been redeemed…… We can live for the LORD…… The joy and happiness that we seek is there…..it´s in living for Jesus….with our eyes on heaven……….. on eternity

Colossians 3: 12 - 17 NLT

12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.

16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

Colossians 3: 12 - 17 Neues Leben

v33….. on the third day ….. the Son of Man will rise again….

Colossians 3: 1-16 NLT

Colossians 3: 1-16 Neues Leben
